Retired Fire Captain/Fire Marshal George Wood was laid to rest today at the Riverside National Cemetery. He passed away quietly in his sleep at the home of his daughter, in Savannah, Texas on April 12. He was 81 years of age. The memorial service was attended by Chief Newell, Captain Viana, and Chief Embrey, representing the Beverly Hills Fire Department. Retired members Captain Carl Urman (who succeeded George Wood as Fire Marshal) and Engineer Larry Runyan were also in attendance. His family was presented a military flag by A U.S.

Rapid and early response in the event of a medical emergency saves lives. In the City of Beverly Hills, getting paramedics and EMT’s on scene in 5 minutes or less can make a life saving difference for the patients experiencing critical medical emergencies. According to the American Red Cross, sudden cardiac arrest patients can have a 50% chance of survival if paramedics and EMT’s are able to get on scene within 6 minutes, but less than a 10% survival rate when it takes longer than 10 minutes to arrive on scene.
